Residential House FireAccording to the NFPA, most residential fires are accidental and start in the kitchen. However, faulty wiring, appliance or product failure and misuse can cause fires. Between 1998 and 2007, there were an average of 397,650 house fires each year in the U.S. Within that number, 5.7 percent or 22,666 of residential fires were caused by arson.
